Ucca-Laugh was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, where she began her love of music as a child studying opera and classical singing styles. Soon, Ucca got her first taste of American R&B and hip-hop; here she found deep inspiration in 90's greats like Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, and Mariah Carey. She quickly began developing her own brand of hip-hop, performing in nightclubs even as a young high school student. Upon graduation, Ucca crossed the globe to study abroad in Los Angeles, where she found further inspiration in its local music and culture.

At 20 years old, Ucca returned to Tokyo determined to pursue a career in music. Here, her talents were soon recognized when she was nominated as a finalist in the “Star Bape Search” held by Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes and N*E*R*D) and by NIGO, a major force in the Japanese music and fashion worlds.

In 2010, Ucca-Laugh embarked on the next chapter of her career as half of the female duo “@djtomoko n Ucca-Laugh”.

They started their career in 2010 performing live at the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival, followed by performances with big names at numerous venues, such as with DJ Premier at Soiree and as opening act for HOT97 presents Cyhi the Prynce (GOOD Music) at SOB’s in Manhattan, New York City.

By 2014, they had already grabbed the #1 spot on the iTunes Hip-Hop album chart in Japan.

Continuing on her rising trajectory, Ucca was signed to Sony Music Publishing as a songwriter in 2016. In Europe, Music Finland and Music Estonia also invited her to join forces with their music producers and songwriters to craft J-Pop tracks.

Now, in 2019, Ucca has debuted as a solo artist, sharing her music with the world on streaming platforms. She has also recently taken her writing skills to prose form, as she pens colorful online essays based on her unique personal experiences.

Ucca-Laugh is further broadening her success as a singer, bringing her dynamic live performances to audiences across the globe: from Tokyo, to the world.
